Omar Casana Villca is 10years old and is the son of Señor Julián Casana Ticona, 48 and Sebastiana Villca, 45 who are originally from the state of Potosí. He studies in the School ‘U.E. Judith Caprirolo’ in the area of Tiquipaya in the state of Cochabamna and is the 5th grade.

From his experience of the project "Schools with safe water" Omar says "One day my teacher Elizabeth showed us the water analysis of water from the school. The water was very polluted and smelly. The same day my teacher taught us how to disinfect water school with chlorine and SODIS (using the sun). From that day on, in my school, we only drink water the tank because it is disease-free water and in my house we drink SODIS water and boiled water.
This change in habit happened not only in school but Omar took it home and tell his story
“ I taught my mum and dad and they remembered that they had been taught in Potosi about SODIS but had forgotten. Now they are using SODIS again.’
Omar’s parents also tell us about their SODIS experience: “ When we lived in Potosi, some people from an organisation told us about and taught us how to disinfect water so we would not get sick. When we came to Cochabamba, we no longer treating the water but Omar told us we have to drink boiled water or put bottles of water in the sun (SODIS) so we don’t get sick as the water is contaminated. So now we boil water or do SODIS.”
