What we do

Our organization
The SODIS Foundation in Latin America is a private, independent and nonprofit organisation. We work to promote solutions to improve access to safe water and thus improve the health of families in rural and peri-urban communities. To do this, we cooperate with the public, private and development sectors.
Our partners
Until December 2008, we supported more than 80 partner institutions in implementing over 160 projects in seven Latin American countries, benefiting more than 1,600,000 people in the region. During this time, we have also trained over 4,000 technicians, communicators and promoters of partner institutions and 40,000 promoters and community leaders. We are currently working with over 1,000,000 people in 6 countries.

To achieve these results, we seek to work synergistically with organizations from different perspectives who are interested in helping improve access to safe water for households in Latin America:
  • We have established cooperation agreements with public sector institutions (Ministries of Health, Ministry of Water, municipalities, universities, etc..), The private sector (businesses) and the development sector (NGOs, UN agencies, donors and others) to provide technical assistance to these institutions.
  • We collaborate with universities and research centres specialized in topics related to safe water and health.
Our scientific support
Our work is backed by the scientific evidence of the Swiss Federal Institute for Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag), through its Department of Water and Sanitation in Developing Countries (Sandec) and the Center for Water and Environmental Sanitation (CASA) of the Universidad Mayor de San Simón (UMSS) in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
